Styker Wireless Bed Mobile Platform

The challenge was to create a mobile interface for the management and connection to the new Stryker InTouch wireless hospital bed. Since a wireless bed is no longer tethered to a single room, management and alerts from the hospital bed are sent over a secure wireless server to hospital staff. In particular, bed fall risk alerts are sent to hospital staff mobile devices to alert the nearest responder to reduce patient injury.

Since the current message routing systems in most Hospitals do not accept wireless transmissions we first had to come up with a strategy of getting messages from the wireless bed to the correct hospital employee as fast as possible. The solution was a mobile application and messaging framework that would except messages from the wireless bed and route them to appropriate employee. This framework was the first application to talk to and demonstrate the life saving potential of this new wireless bed technology. This was not our first mobile app development but is was by far the most complex and most rewarding.
